A 30-amp generator should suffice if you only need to power the refrigerator, a few light bulbs, and a few small appliances.

However, if you want to run a washing machine, refrigerator or freezer, dryer, air conditioner or heater, and water heater, you'll need a generator with at least 200 amps. It is also important to care about the weight of your generator, especially if you will be using it for recreational reasons.
